Side Table Papyrus

The Met x Eichholtz presents the Papyrus side table, which, with its compact form and wealth of details, brings sculptural elegance even to the most intimate spaces. Crafted from refined, warm oak veneer with a distinctive open grain, the side table reflects the striking pedestal design of the coffee and dining tables from the same collection. Its compact silhouette makes it the ideal side table beside an armchair, a sofa, or a bed, offering both functionality and timeless style. HISTORICAL PROVENANCE The Papyrus side table owes its name and design to a papyrus-motif capital that once crowned the column of a kiosk erected in front of the Temple of Amun at Hibis in Egypt’s Kharga Oasis. The original column in the Metropolitan Museum of Art dates from between 380 and 343 BC and combines stylized depictions of papyrus with foxtail leaves - an early example of the so-called composite capitals, which unite decorative botanical forms in a cohesive design. Eichholtz honors this heritage by translating the rhythm and symmetry of the Egyptian capital into the sculptural pedestal of this modern table.
