Learning means hard work for the eyes. This is because we perceive around 80 percent of all information visually. Good lighting is therefore a must for classrooms. This includes an illuminance of at least 300 lux. Uniform illumination of the room is advantageous because it allows tables to be rearranged without difficulty. Blackboards and whiteboards need to be additionally illuminated so that inscriptions can be clearly seen. Indirect lighting on the ceiling widens the room and creates a pleasant lighting atmosphere. Changing light colors and brightness levels provide invigorating stimuli, ensure a greater sense of well-being and support learning.
